The world’s hydrogen and fuel cell community came together in Zaragoza, Spain, from the 13th to the 16th of June 2016, to take part in the World Hydrogen Energy Conference 2016 (WHEC 2016). The event celebrated its 21st edition and took place at the Palacio de Congresos Expo Zaragoza.

WHEC 2016 was attended by more than 900 participants from all over the world and offered high quality plenary sessions, 600 scientific and technological presentations from 50 different countries, a Trade Fair, a Test&Drive zone, several parallel events and multiple networking areas and activities. The conference went over the past, present and future of the hydrogen energy sector worldwide, covering all the aspects related to hydrogen energy such as the progress in hydrogen production, storage, distribution and applications, the latest hydrogen technologies for mobility or the hydrogen strategies developed by the sector leading regions of the globe, among other issues of interest. 

After four intensive days, WHEC 2016 closed its doors having achieved a great success. The subsequent satisfaction survey distributed among all the attendees show an overall satisfaction about WHEC 2016 rated more than 4 points out of 5.

Mr Tudor Constantinescu | Principal Adviser to the Director-General, DG ENERGY - European Commission

Dr Tudor Constantinescu is Principal Adviser to the Director General for Energy in the European Commission since March 2011. He is engineer and economist by education. Before joining the Commission, he set up as Executive Director the Buildings Performance Institute Europe. He was the president of the Romanian Agency for Energy Conservation and for the period 2008-2009 he ensured the presidency of the EnR network of European Energy Agencies. Between 1996-2007, he coordinated the energy efficiency and related environmental activities of the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels.

Mr Bjørn Simonsen Director, Market Development and Public Relations - NEL ASA

Bjørn Simonsen is Director for Market Development and Public Relations in NEL ASA, a leading supplier of electrolysers for the industry and energy sector and hydrogen refueling stations. NEL is a publicly listed company on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

Earlier positions include Secretary General for the Norwegian Hydrogen Association and Secretary for the Norwegian Hydrogen Council. He has also been the Chairman of the HyNor hydrogen highway project. He started his career as a research scientist at Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), and holds a Master’s degree in Process Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
